Doppler Effect Demonstration - Via Rail
Made this commuter train video near my home. The apparent change in frequency is caused by motion, and is known as the Doppler Effect. As the train approaches, more sound waves strike your ears each second because the sound waves are crowded together. You hear fewer sound waves each second after the train passes, because the sound waves are stretched apart....

This covey of California Quail drops by sometimes to scratch around for birdseed. Clips are on telephoto, if I get too close their sentry in the trees calls out the alarm and then they dart under the fence.

These thumb-sized female Anna Hummingbirds are very young and learning to bathe. They are very cautious at first and will hover for 2 or 3 minutes just observing my little fountain. They have to be careful. Predators, potential drowning, or other aggressive / territorial birds make them quite vulnerable when bathing. Unlike the larger birds, they will seldom spend more than 30 seconds at a time...
